Description: As we continue part 2 of “The Apostle’s Boasting” we are faced with the question “Why are so many people drawn to the proud and arrogant and not the humble and loving?” Pastor John looks at this question in light of Paul’s ministry to the church in Corinth. He also provides us with some very practical “tools” to avoid falling into this trap.

Description: As Pastor John continues his study in 2nd Corinthians Paul now finds himself having to defend himself because the Christian in Corinth would rather believe in the lies of the “pushy & showy people” – than believe in Paul. They would listen and consider what everyone had to say – even to the point of being led astray. But because Paul was humble – they didn’t give him much credit. And, although we see Paul boasting, he doesn’t want the people of Corinth to be “impressed” or “drawn” to him, he
wants then drawn to Christ! If they were drawn to him, he would have accomplished only what the false prophets had accomplished.

Description: Pastor John takes a look at two basic ways of being deceived; willful intention by someone trying to deceive for selfish gain and “deception by misconception” (fooling ourselves). He also provides practical, Biblical ways to guard our lives against the deception of the devil and brings light to the truth that the sheep are never as safe as when they are near the Shepherd.

Description: Because of Paul’s small build and not so handsome face, he was accused of writing “powerful” letters when he was away but being “wimpy” in person. We must be very careful not to use worldly methods in judging others. 1st Samuel 16:7 reads “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” Paul is about to tell them that they are using worldly methods to judge his office, and his authority. He tells them that he will not fight on that level because he has “weapons” they know little or nothing about. In the 10th Chapter of 2nd Corinthians we learn about these “weapons.”

2 Corinthians 08-09 – The Grace of Giving – Pastor John W. Brown

Description: In the previous chapters of 2nd Corinthians Paul has been talking about Christian living. He now switches to Christian giving. Paul uses Jesus’ act of grace in leaving the riches of heaven to become poor for us to show the Corinthians that sacrificial giving and giving to bless others is not a new concept. It was the focal point of Christ’s ministry here on earth.

2 Corinthians 07 – Resentment or Revival – Pastor John W. Brown

Description: As Christians we pray for revival. We long for a time when the fire of God will burn bright enough for everyone to see Jesus, and thousands if not millions will be saved. But, in all honesty we expect that fire to start somewhere else, or with someone else. We all need to pray that the revival starts first in our hearts.
