Description: We have learned in our studies of Galatians that we have been “set free” in Christ and should endeavor to “stand firm” in that liberty. Chapter 5 begins with Paul warning believers to “not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” He encourages all of us to live a life fueled by love not fueled by legalism.

Description: In Chapter 4 of Galatians Paul continues to encourage the church to walk in the freedom of Christ and not be bound by legalism and sin. The church in Galatia had turned back to their superstitions and regulations. Paul tells them we should be trading our bondage for liberty, not our liberty for bondage.

Description: In the 3rd chapter of Galatians, Paul continues to argue for the liberty that is ours in Christ. Paul accuses the people of Galatia of being “under a spell” or “fascinated” (bewitched), and unable to see some basic truths. Legalism is intoxicating because it appeals to the flesh and the flesh loves to boast. A legalist likes to invent a system that he can brag about. It is usually a system he can use to measure and compare himself against others.

Description: In the 2nd chapter of Galatians Paul states that God had revealed that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them needed to physically go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, concerning the issue of circumcision. Paul wanted to make sure that there was a Spirit of unity and bond of peace regarding the issue. Paul’s motives weren’t just to get everyone to agree with him, he wanted to make sure that he was on the right track. This meeting opened the door for Paul to address true grace with the elders and Peter.

Description: As Paul begins his letter to the church in Galatia finds it necessary to make clear his authority as an Apostle . He states very plainly that his authority does not come from man but from God Himself. He adds that this authority comes under the same Power that raised Christ from the dead. He then begins warning the Galatians to be leery of false teachers entering the church presenting perversions of the true gospel.
