Description: Psalm 45 is set to tune called “The Lilies” and although we do not know the melody, we are told that it is a love song. Since it deals with the King, and the bride and love, it is believed to be a wedding song. As the Psalmist begins to write this song he is overwhelmed with inspiration. His theme is the reigning King, but we will see even a greater king in these verses.

Description: When we get our eyes off Jesus and on ourselves and the world around us, depression is inevitable. We learn from David in these Psalms that we must continually remind ourselves that God is on the throne and in control. David realizes in the midst of pain and hurt he must “refocus” his hope and his praise on the One who holds all of life in His hands.

Description: Pastor John begins this Wednesday night study with a problem that faces us all at one time or another – worry. David starts the 37th Psalm with “do not fret”, and mentions it a total of three times in the first eight verses. David seems to know that a lot of his worry comes from taking his eyes off the Lord. Worry seems to dissipate when we are focused on the One who holds everything in His hands.

Description: There is great wisdom in the phrase “the battle belongs to the Lord.” All to often we try to fight our own battles in the flesh instead of letting go and allowing God the opportunity to be our defender. David understood that his battles with the enemy were best left in the hands of the Lord.

Description: Psalm 31 is a psalm in which David expresses his personal laments. This is at a time once again where his enemies are many and danger to his life is great. Much of the Psalm can be summed up in verse 5, “Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.” Ultimately this is where faith must lead every believer – trusting the Lord for the outcome of our lives.

Description: As we continue in our study of the Psalms in Chapter 28 David is still crying out to the Lord in his times of trouble. It serves as a preliminary to Psalm 29 where David describes the voice of the Lord in a thunderstorm. David paints an encouraging picture explaining that no matter how bad it gets, the Lord is there in the midst of the storm.
